SHELTERS - workshop

Sandhornøya, Norway
SALT Festival
Installation/Building
Completed 2014

In August, the SALT festival took place on the SANDHORNØY beach in northern Norway. The festival was accommodated by temporary wooden structures, a permanent service building, and shelters. The shelters were built by students from Norway, Sweden and Canada. During the workshop, all thirty-four participants camped on the beach under the midnight sun, and discovered what was necessary to stay on SANDHORNØY. Together, they built three shelters:
- the sky-bound cabin, resembling a giant insect that moves on the sand.
- the earth-bound cabin, making reference to wood and rock.
- the system cabin, which can be moved and adapted to users' needs.
